Design Principles

The Billion Stars incorporates low-cost, resources and energy efficient, smart, eco-friendly design, in all of its aspects and systems; minimizing footprint and achieving zero-waste.

Eco-Design – like nature’s wise design, our resort uses renewable energy sources such as the sun to heat water; during summer, a natural ocean breeze keeps the interior of the tents cool day & night.

Zero Waste – NO valuable material is wasted; organic leftovers become soil fertilizer for our trees and plants.

Water Conservation – Water shortages are a common phenomenon in Greece; we help the environment by conserving as much water as possible using no-flush toilets.

Carbon Footprint – Materials required for construction and maintenance, like wood, stones, and clay, are locally sourced, avoiding unnecessary transport emissions.

Healthy & Organic – plants, fruits, and vegetables are grown organically in the estate, and provide for fresh, healthy, and delicious recipes.

The Research

The Billion Stars Thassos Glamping Resort has been researched and designed by a group of engineers, designers, artists, and friends; in fact, it is part of the diploma work I presented in the International Hellenic University, where I spent the last two years of my life doing research on industrial design.

The Location – Building from Scratch

Two locations were chosen for this project.

The starting location – Thymonia Valley.

Thymonia Valley offers unique natural, unspoiled beauty, and incomparable peace year-round, which is all too hard to find nowadays on the island of Thassos.

The future location – Aliki Highlands

A deserted piece of family land that once used to be thriving with olive trees, devastated by the deadly wildfires that hit Greece pretty hard in 2016.

However, I was immediately struck by a captivating harmony that was emancipated from this land and its mesmerizing 180-degree vista. This piece of land stands close to the most beautiful landmarks of the island – and at a walking distance from one of its most beautiful beaches – but at the same time so secluded from overcrowdedness…

Thassos

But before, let me introduce you to Thassos – the most beautiful island of Greece!

Thassos is an island renowned for its natural beauty, spectacular landscapes, original food, and friendly people.

In 2017 I left a life in the city to start a new in this fresh and calm environment. In fact, I spent many summers on this island before finally realizing, that the closer I was to my 30’s, the more attracted I became to the natural serenity of the place…

Glamping

Those of you familiar with glamping already know the advantages of living close to nature, while at the same time maintaining all modern comforts.
